Featured OutDoor Experience for march/april 2010

The Bass Fishing Club of Ohio State University is a bass fishing club comprised of Undergraduate and Graduate students of The Ohio State University. Our members have all different levels of Bass Fishing experience.

Founded by Club President Jason Founds in January of 2008, the club has been steadily growing ever since. The original dozen members of the club were found strictly through word-of-mouth and by posting on the Ohio Game Fishing message boards. After recruiting new members at some on-campus student activity fairs we have 65+ members to start out the 2010 season.

One of the core purposes of this club is to improve the future of the sport that we love so much. For that reason, we encourage anybody to join this club, even if they have never touched a fishing pole in their life. After all, every avid fisherman at one time was throwing their first cast with no presumption of the passion they would find in this great sport.

As the name of this club implies this is mostly a Bass Fishing club, but not exclusively. On different occasions throughout the year our members can be found chasing crappie, catfish, saugeye, or up on Lake Erie chasing walleyes.

Featured OutDoor Experience for November/December 2009

We go from the East Coast to the Great Plains of South Dakota for this month's OutDoor Experience. If you make it Mitchell, South Dakota you will discover a very nice Cabela's store to shop for your hunting needs. The town of Mitchell boosts a very interesting downtown area with many shops and the world famous Corn Palace. Each year the front and sides of the Corn Palace is decorated in different themes. The art work that is completed  uses corn products to make interesting shapes, pictures and themes.

The Corn Palace serves as a multi-use center for the community and region. The facility hosts stage shows, as well as sports events in its arena. The World's Only Corn Palace is an outstanding structure which stands as a tribute to the agricultural heritage of South Dakota.

The original Corn Palace, called "The Corn Belt Exposition" was established in 1892. Early settlers displayed the fruits of their harvest on the building exterior in order to prove the fertility of South Dakota soil. The third and present building was completed for it first festival at the present location in 1921. The exterior decorations are completely stripped down and new murals are created each year. The theme is selected by the Corn Palace Festival Committee and murals are designed by a local artist.  Come and Experience what the Corn Palace has to offer.  Visiting is FREE.

 Featured OutDoor Experience for Sept./October2009:

This month we are visiting the "Springfield Armory" National Historic Site in Springfield, Massachusetts. The Armory was in service from 1795 thru 1968. It produced weapons for the armed forces during this time period. The Springfiled Armory produced the Model 1903 for WWI a bolt action rifle. From the 1930's until 1945 the Armory manufactured 3.5 million M1 rifles that were used by troops around the world. In 1957 the M14 rifle was the last shoulder weapon produced at the Springfield Armory. It was phased out as a standard infantry weapon in 1966 and was the basis for the M21 Sniper Weapon System until 1988, though it is still available to military sharpshooters today.

Almost all of the original buildings still stand and are being used by private businesses. The entrance to the Springfield Armory is occupied by the Springfield Technical Community College. The building occupied by the National Park Service is historic main arsenal building where the finished weapons were stored.

Featured OutDoor Experience for May/June 2009:

A weekend on the Western Basin Of Lake Erie fishing for Walleye. We started our trip out of "Anchors Away Marina" and proceeded to the area southwest of Kelly's Island. We tried several techniques for the fish: drifting/casting and trolling. The trolling seemed to work the best for the conditions of the lake on our first day as we caught several nice walleyes. We had some evening rain showers and it produced a very beautiful rainbow from the harbor.

All in all the fishing was enjoyable on the lake with friends and brought more memories to share in days to come.

If you are interested in a charter out of "Anchors Away Marina" check out some of the listed charter boats on the website.  The Charter boats are catching walleyes  in large numbers so don't wait to land your next big walleye.

If you are vacationing in the Pocono Mountains near Tannersville,PA and would like to experience an exciting raft or canoe ride visit the friendly people at Chamberlain Canoes on the Delaware River in Delaware Water Gap,Pa.
